Da Nang, with an area of 1,285.4 km2 and a population of 1 million people (2014), is defined as the core growth driver for the development of the key economic region in Central Viet Nam, creating impetus for the development of the Central Region and Central Highlands. Da Nang Port is regarded as the east ending point of the East - West Economic Corridor (EWEC), a gateway to the Pacific, and a port for exporting and importing inland goods. Da Nang is connected to the world through the modern international airport, which ranks first in Central Viet Nam.
With the motto: "Considering the success of the business is the success of the city, creating confidence for businesses when coming to the city", leaders of Da Nang City always try to create the most favourable business environment for enterprises. Accordingly, the city has achieved impressive positions (7 years at the top and 3 years at the 2nd) in the Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) rankings compiled by Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).
In recent years, Da Nang city has a continuous progression. In the context of economy, the city’s GDP reached 9.04% in 2016. The main industrial products of Da Nang are seafood, textiles, footwear, engineering, building materials, art crafts, etc. High-tech industries, information technology and tourism are focused as key development drivers of the city. Infrastructure and quality of service sectors of Da Nang are being invested massively to achieve a higher growth. Da Nang is making great efforts to become an environmental and worth-living city by 2020.
For all above reasons, Da Nang is an ideal city in Vietnam to host APEC 2017.
